Fire & Ice

This is one of my most popular photographs that I captured nearly two years ago now. I decided to take a crack at re-editing it again. Funny enough, even though the conditions were just incredible that day and perfect for photography; the majority of this day was a disaster. I was out driving while searching for cool locations to shoot with some friends and I just grazed some powder that was on the side of a freshly paved road. The powder just sucked my little car into this super steep ditch and if it wasn't for the big tree that caught me, I would have rolled for sure. After 4 hours of waiting around, 2 two trucks came and rescued my car from the ditch. My car fortunately turned over right away and I drove home. I almost decided not to go shoot the sunset that evening after the pretty disastrous events that took place during the day. But the skies were beginning to light up and I knew this was an opportunity that I wouldn't have again for a long time (as we rarely get snow where I live). So I went out and managed to get this shot of those burning skies right above this beautiful winter road. It was the only good shot I got that day but it was one of the best shots I got all year, so it sure made the whole adventure worth it.

Streaks of Light

This is a bracketed shot consisting of 3 exposures captured at 2EV intervals. I very rarely ever bracket my photos, as I find that the raw capabilities of my camera are usually good enough to get back most shadows and highlights. But this was such a high dynamic range shot, that I knew I had to take more than just one exposure. It was difficult enough to stand in the middle of the street and try to hold my hand as still as possible as my camera fired off sets of 3 exposures. But on top of that, I had all my gear on, including my helmet and earplugs; as I had just quickly pulled my motorcycle to the side of the road so that I could hop off and take this image. Not the brightest idea perhaps, but I am definitely glad that I stopped. I'm sure you guys already know that I got a thing for roads. Those leading lines are just too tempting to ignore, especially when they lead off into a stunning sunset.

Autumn Drives

A beautiful Autumn scene that we stumbled across while driving to Johnson Lake for sunset. I was amazed at the amount of changing colors in the Canadian Rockies this Fall. It was absolutely incredible. If anyone says that Fall in Western Canada isn't amazing; they need to get outside more...
